I am in the process of reading the Compressor User Manual after I tried to quickly use Compressor 1.0 without the guide. But I had a problem. So as I read the manual I ask the fpllowing question.

I am trying to burn an avi file (75 minutes) onto DVD with toast. The encoding takes really long. I decided to use Compressor for the first time. The first thing I noticed without proceeding to the encoding step is that once the avi file is dropped in Compressor and I press preview, there is no audio. I get audio with mpeg or mov files.

Is it a question of Compressor settings or do I have to convert the avi file into say mpeg or mov before encoding with Compressor? The avi file came on a DVD as data and is not from one of my FCP projects.

    Thanks.

There are many types of AVIs, and its not always possible to kmow what codecs were used to create them. Depending on the power of your MAC, a 75-min encode and burn using Toast may take a few hours, but so too will encoding with Compressor. Rather than trying to learn Compressor, you’re probably better off just going with Toast and hoping for the best.
