  • Tracking camera movement (for background replacement)?

    Hey!

I’m fairly new to the world of video and compositing apps, but since this seems to be one of the best boards on the net I thought I’d ask here. I did search the forum quite a bit, but since I don’t know exactly what I’m looking I didn’t come up with anything useful so far. And please, just in case my English doesn’t make sense to you, excuse that as well, it’s not my first language. 😉

Anyway, I’m wondering what it takes to do something that’s a little Sin City-like, so here’s what I’m interested in, what I would like to TRY:

I wanna shoot some guy in front of green screen with tracking dots on the walls and floor (I have easy access to one at a nearby college), with lots of camera movement. After keying I’d then like to –

    a) put in one or two different layers of drawn background. I’d like to be able to distort the perspective of the drawing using the tracking dots, so that the background (and it’s angle) actually “follows” the movement of the camera. The reason why I wanna use to layers is because I’d like to try to pull of an old school video game kinda look with, for the lack of a better word, different scrolling of two backgrounds (back in the day the game mags used to call it “paralax scrolling” or something).

    b) do a virtual “strech”, change the perspective of the background in relation to the “actor” in the front.

Is it possible to do something like that with only After Effects 7? And if the answer’s yes, how’d you do it?

    Thanks in advance!

Do you want to “nail or tack” your background to your tracking dots? I realize the camera is moving but it still seems a straight Perspective Corner Pin. These tuts, replacing a monitor screen and a placard, should work, no?

    Keep motion in perspective

    Using the new Motion Tracker

If not it’s probably a matchmove thing, does this help:

    Hey!

To be honest I’m not exactly sure whether I’d like to “tack” the background, I don’t know how to plan the entire thing, you know? The thing I’m thinking about is something like a “virtual set” kinda thing, but way more flat and 2D-ish than what you see on tv-shows, you know what I mean? 2D layers arranged in a 3D space, something like that. I’m having a hard time describing it without a conceptual drawing I guess.

However, I think the latter link might be helpful though, so thanks!
