  • Tracking an object in front of an image that needs to be changed

Posted by Bisera Mihajlovska on March 14, 2017 at 11:05 am

Hey guys! I have a simple tracking issue, a have a video of a billboard that needs to contain custom graphics.
The issue is, in front of the billboard, there is a soccer ball that flies in front of it. How do i track the ball so when it moves, it flies above my newly put graphic on the billboard?
    Thanks ☺

If you’re using AE’s default tracker, just track the ball, duplicate the footage, create a shape like the ball and link to the null you used as target of the tracker. now set the footage to use the shape as an alpha matte. keep this new layers on top of the rest.

Yes, thanks a lot, i will try this. I also have the Mocha plugin which i think it’s a bit more accurate, so do you have any advice on how to use Mocha on this one?

I’m not sure what this mocha plugin outputs to AE when you use its foreground/layer settings (I don’t use it). If its a mask just use that. If its coordenates, do the same as I said before (applying to a null). Or if you can output a black/white matte, use as a luma matte.

I suggest you search for mocha foreground element. Google should help you out. Good luck.

Yes, i actually masked it frame by frame. Luckily, the ball is moving quite fast and it’s not very detailed. The whole shot is around 2,3 seconds so it wasn’t that big of a deal. Thanks a lot, have a great day!

This new Mocha video tutorial should answer some questions:
