  • Tracking a moving object and adding magnify effect

Posted by Shei Hastings on September 18, 2014 at 12:53 pm

    Hi all
Hope you don’t mind me asking a noobish question, but I need some help on a project im working on to try and magnify a tracked subjects eyes.
SO far I have tracked the subjects eyes and have all the data saved to two null points, I have also opened up two adjustment layers and am currently stuck on how to proceed with getting the Magnify effect attached to the tracking points on the eyes.

    Thanks in advance!

I actually told you slightly wrong. Try this: (just whipped it up and AE and it works). Use an adjustment layer, and apply the effect “Magnify”, make the size what you want and position it using the “center” information. Next, parent the “Center” info to the null object’s position and it should follow.

Sorry about the initial wrong response.

Thats ok Derek, thanks for trying to help!
I tried the advice and have the magnify effect applied but it’s not moving with the tracking data.
So just to make sure i’m doing this correctly; how do I parent the “Center information” to the null objects?
So far Im using the elastic band on the Adjustment plane and parenting it to one of the Null objects?

    Thanks again!

Okay, so here is how your comp is setup: null with tracking, adjustment layer with magnify, and then your tracked footage. On the adjustment layer, place the magnify effect to where you want, using the options titled “center”. It has a cross hair and z,y values to the right of it. After you put it where you want, hold alt and click the stop watch next to “center” and that will activate you expressions options for “center” next, grab the pick whip that has now appeared, and drag it to the x,y position data in the tracked null (not the null itself, but the position suboption). There you go! Hope that clears it up.
