I was trying to blur a face using a track matte. I could move the white circle with keyframes, but when I turned off visibility on the matte track, the animation went away and the circle just sat in the middle of the screen.

I solved the problem by creating a sequence and then using it as the track matte, but I’m curious if this is normal?

    Any insights?

Sorry, forgot to add that I’m using v. 1.5

    Hi Perry…

    I think it’s a matter of Processing order…

the tracl matte will look at the RGB(A) of the matte as an image Pre any transforms that have been applied…

By creating a sequence you are essentially nesting those transforms…so when you use that as a source now it’s seeing you animation on top of the static matte as a travelling matte…

    that’s why this works… 🙂

Yep, nesting the sequence is the solution in 1.5. You don’t have to do that in Premiere Pro 2.0, though. Adobe changed the rendering order so that the track matte effect is calculated after the motion is applied.
