Got drafted into adding some sound effects into a Final Cut Pro project at a new job, and have run into some pains.

Every time I place a clip on the timeline, the two halves of the audio file get split apart. So if Track 14 and 15 are where I’m trying to place the clip, one will end up in Track 14, and the lower part of the track will end up in a newly created Track 16.

Any solutions? I know it must be something simple.

If you’re dragging the clips in, you have to make sure you’re placing the Video into the properly selected video track. If you place the video into a track that’s not selected, then FCP will place the audio into the corresponding audio tracks instead of where you want them.

Video Track 1 – audio will be placed on Audio 1 / 2
Video Track 2 – audio will be placed on Audio 3 / 4

And so on. To avoid this, you must make sure you have video and audio tracks selected, and then drag the video clip onto the track selected and not any others.

Thanks a lot, Walter! I think I’m all sorted out now.
