    Hello All,
How do you toggle an External Monitor Off & On?
In After Effects CS5.5 you tap “Command Forward Slash” (on Mac) and the external monitors toggle off and on.

Great feature if you don’t want/need the editing process on the big screen in front of client, it saves on energy, and if you have older plasmas it prevents screen burn-in…

FYI: AJA via HD/SDI to CRT & Plasma. Connections and viewing is no problem. Toggling off/on within the application is the conundrum.

    Thanks for your help!

    With the remote control 🙂

Actually, there is no direct shortcut that I know of. You create a shortcut to playback settings but you’ll still have to check off external monitor.

Or you could get a cheap HDMI switcher if you are monitoring through DVI/HDMI.

This is also one feature I’d like to see in CS6.

What if you edit in a Non AJA seqeunce…

but then also nest that sequence in an AJA sequence?

that way when you want to check it on external monitoring you can….

but you can leave it off most of the time….

How about a cheap blackburst gen. connected to another input of the monitor? Then you can switch the monitor instead of your software.

    Just a thought.

Alex, that would work – just copy paste in a non-AJA sequence.

I could also use the remote from the plasma and switch to an unused input to get all black. But to be quite honest – I’m hoping Adobe peeps are reading all of our cries and will update or fix in CS6.

AND if AE CS5.5 has the toggle – I know the code and function exists within the halls of Adobe…

    Thanks all,

TOGGLE External Monitor… this is the function I’ve been dreaming of!

I often use a typical 2 monitor setup and like to use the second monitor for either browsing bins or full screen playback, depending on my needs. I really could do with a keyboard shortcut to toggle between these two states and I’m a little surprised that it isn’t already a standard feature.

    …I can live in hope
