Today’s project – Brazilian Choro music edited on Vegas 10.c
I wanted to share this with the Vegas community. Technical info: Edited with Sony’s Video Vegas 10.c. on Windows 7. 11 tracks of audio & video. This is the entire edited version with long shots of the incredible church, titles, credits, etc. The church is very dark, lighting was beautiful but very low, and our cameras struggled to capture the event. This was shot with a Panasonic HMC 150 & Canon 7D (for the close ups and church shots). Sound came “off the board”.
Dudu Maia (10 string bandolim) joins long time friend Douglas Lora (7 string guitar) on Jacob do Bandolim’s “Santa Morena”. Video taped at the Old Church in Portland, Oregon USA on 20 April, 2011.
This was part of a benefit concert for Mercy Corp called Brazil for Japan. All proceeds went to help relief efforts for the Japanese earthquake & tsunami of 2011.
Choro is a style of Brazilian music that has been around since the late 1800s. Started mainly in Rio, it has gone through many changes. It is still as vibrant as ever, and Dudu & Douglas represent part of the new wave of younger musicians carrying on the tradition.
Santa Morena was written by Jacob do Bandolim, the most influential choro musician of the second half of the twentieth century. His revival of choro, including writing many original tunes, like Santa Morena, led to the “Golden Age” of choro.
And now crank up the volume and enjoy, Santa Morena.
