Titles created in Premiere CS5 look blurry… imported Photoshop titles looks perfect
Did anybody notice that when creating titles in Premiere CS5 the text looks blurry? It’s extra blurry when the title is overlapping another layer (even black mattes!) and is really noticeable if half overlapping another. This was not an issue in CS4.
I think they were trying to go for some kind of anti-aliasing effect to make text blend in over any type of surface.
I did a test and imported a title I created in Photoshop (using same font settings) and it looks perfect and sharp when put beside the premiere created title, however, it still has a slight blur when overlapping another layer (look closely at the “P” and “H”).
Here’s a screenshot I took from the Premiere CS5 timeline window:
The next screenshot below is the same project loaded in Premiere CS4. It too is a little blurry but doesn’t suffer that extra blur when overlapping another layer:
I exported the video and it looks the same as it does on the timeline. Here’s a screenshot from windows media player:
I wonder why Premiere didn’t include text smoothing options (none, sharp, crisp, strong, smooth) like they did in Photoshop?
Does anybody know if there’s a fix for this or maybe it’s a problem on my end??

Two things, what’s your playback and static image quality set at? It might be able to play back graphic files at full quality but not titles created with the title tool. Also, what’s the resolution of the Photoshop file compared to the one created inside of Premiere? The photoshop files might be more res than the ones created in Premiere. Also, you should always try to create titles in Premiere at a larger res than the timeline res just for safe measure.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The sequence is 640×480 with PAR 1 and both playback and pause settings for the timeline preview window are at full.
Here are the premiere title properties:
Title Type: Still
Data Size: 3 KB
Title Size: 640 x 480
Pixel Depth: 32
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0The Photoshop file was just a small image using the standard 72 pixels/inch resolution.
If I create the title at twice the resolution of the the sequence, then it looks just as good as the Photoshop file… but still has that visible extra blur when half overlapping another layer.

Peter, have you figured out what the problem was I’m getting the same issue with the blurry tiles…..
