Titles as independent media in CS3?

Your question doesn’t really say what you have and what you want. If you have graphics from PPro1.5 and you want to link them when you open in CS3 that’s a not an issue, just link them.
If you want to use the same graphic design, just change the name, make a set of templates and use that to make the multiple versions with a title change. Make sure you open the template, make new based on current, then change the title (text/graphic).
Can you let me know more about what you have and what you need to do with it.

Titles in CS3 can be saved as independent media like previous versions. Select the title in the Project Window and choose;
File>Export>Title

You might also consider doing the titles in Photoshop. The last time I had a quantity of bullet point graphics to manage, it was much easier to do in Pshop than by using the title tool.
In either case, here’s what might help:

Create a folder for each language/region.
Keep the names of the graphics identical, use the folders to separate them. (title_a.psd is a different file in each folder)–
for example:

"project/english/title_a.psd"
"project/spanish/title_a.psd"
"project/danish/title_a.psd"

Make one more folder, we’ll call it “Current”.
Copy the first set of graphics to “Current.”
Do your edit using the graphics in the “Current” folder.
Then, to do a different version, copy a different set to the “Current” folder.

This does have the drawback of not having a Premiere project file for each language, but should “automate” the other part.

Thanks for the reply. I think I may have misspoke a bit.
I’m running CS3 – Production Premium on Windows.
The only issue I have is with the Titler in Premiere 3.0.

I’ll give a more specific example, in case I’m being hard to follow. I build a TV show and DVD which have the same program content and length. The only things changing are the graphics behind the athlete’s names (generally .PSD or .AVI files), as well as the font/placement/etc of their names. We manage this text as a separate layer, using the Titler to create this content.
So, we can easily replace the TV shows .PSD or .AVI files by offlining them, and relinking to identically named equivalents in a different folder. The titles, whether or not they are exported as .prtl files, will not migrate in this way.

I’m hoping there is someway to do this without abandoning the Titler. I don’t think my co-workers will be willing to try anything they don’t already use regularly.

This seems like it will accomplish exactly what I want. With Bridge, it doesn’t seem like it would take significantly longer than using Titler.

I was just hoping there was a way within Premiere, as my co-workers are pretty attached to using the Titler. Thanks though, I’ll have to give this a try!

In CS3 you can replace clips in the timeline by holding the alt key when you drag and drop over the layer you want to replace. It will replace an avi or psd with a title. Any effects you have on the original clip will also attach to the replaced file.

If I understand this, you just need to change the text. Use a Search and Replace program to change the text in the project file.
