  • Title created from custom Motion 5 template not in shared Master File

I created a Title Template in Motion 5. In FCPX I then replaced the template text with the “real” text for a video I was editing. When I created a QuickTime movie (File > Share > Master File), the title text is missing from that .mov file!

This Title Template contains a background photo (in a “Photo” Group). The template text (“Speaker Name”, “Speaker Title”, etc.) is in a second Group named “Speaker,” which is layered above Photo Group. In addition to the placeholder template text, this “Speaker” group also contains some text that I don’t need to change in FCPX when I use this template (for example, “A Community Media Production”).

In the Motion timeline, the In point of a third group (“Credits”) follows the Out point of the “Speaker” group, so that when the template plays the Credits appear after the Speaker information. The Credits group contains static text that I don’t need to change in FCPX (“Producer”, “Copyright”, etc.).

In Motion, I saved this Title Template. Then, in my FCPX Project I added it to my primary storyline. I selected the template in my storyline, and modified the placeholder text. In the “Speaker Name” object, I replaced the template text with 2 lines of text (the video’s title and the speaker’s name), and I also increased the Size of the video title line. I replaced each of the other placeholders with the values for the video I was editing.

In FCPX, the entire template clip looks perfect — the static text and actual text that I entered in place of the template text displays in front of the photo background, after which the second set of static text (the Credits group) displays in front of the photo background.

When I finished editing this Project, I created a QuickTime movie by sharing a Master File. The generated .mov file contains everything except the entire portion of the Title Template in which I had replaced some of the template text (the “Speaker” group). The QT movie displays nothing but the background photo for 10 seconds, after which the static text (from the Credits group) correctly displays in front of the photo.

What could cause this behavior in FCPX when it creates the QT .mov file? That is, why does FCPX omit the entire Speaker grou–not just the text I replaced–from the .mov file? How can I work around this problem?

    Thanks!
