  • Timewarp; AE-CS3 – Possible to make the clip longer?

    Hi guys,

For some reason I had ingnored the timewarp plug in, foolishly thinking that it was inferior to one or two of the plug ins I use…
    Wow was I wrong !

Anyway, so I’ve got some settings I’d like to try out on a 15 second clip, but yep, I want to make the clip twice as long. The motion is correct but obviously when applied directly to deinterlaced footage, it doesn’t change the length of the file.
How can I do that ?

    p.s
Trying to find some tutorials/links here but couldnt see anything yet.

Found this after some hunting !

there is a work around for that…

what you need is to make ae think that your footage is longer than it is. to do that you need to ‘loop’ your footage in the interpret footage settings… select your footage in your project window, right-click it or file>interpret footage>main…

in the interpret footage menu, near the bottom, is a loop number, set it to the number of loops that will make your footage long enough, in your case ‘2’ (you may also need to pull your out point of that clip to match the new length if it is already in a comp).

in addition you could apply time remapping to the footage (layer>time>enable time remapping), then set/drag the outpoint to the required length.

however, if you footage is interlaced, there may be a better and faster way to make it 2x longer (or run in half speed slow-mo, however you want to look at it)…

make sure ae is correctly separating fields in the interpret footage window (file>interpret footage>main), also click the option for preserve edges. you can also set the loop to 2 to change the duration and save a step later.

drag it to the make comp icon and choose layer>time>time stretch, set it to 200%.

your footage should now be half speed (or 2x as long) and should render significantly faster and look a bit cleaner than it did using timewarp.

This method repeat the same file twice. Is there one way to double the lenght of the file and not be choppy.

This loop idea was of great help for me, thanks
