I assume you mean the timeline “auto scrolling” when the cursor reaches the end of the visible display?
Haven’t really notice that as an issue since a quick two-finger swipe moves the timeline without stopping playback when I want to follow the cursor.
Doing so with my right thumb and forefinger means my hands don’t even leave the home row.
Seems just as natural for me now.

Yeah, I’ve got a trackpad too, but I’d prefer auto scrolling. Also, when manually scrolling, the waveform doesn’t update until you stop playback.

October 25, 2012 at 5:35 amI’ve always despised any sort of timeline scrolling. First thing I would always turn off on Avid back in the day.
Everyone has their method, but I do like Bill. When I play back, I usually hit shift+7 anyway to get the bigger view. Just habit. Generally I navigate the timeline between shift + 7, and marquee zoom in very close. Sometimes + and -, and never the silly zoom bar at the bottom.
But why not? They should add an option. iMovie on the iPad does it, so I’m sure the feature will trickle down to FCP X someday… 🙂
