    Hi Guys
I’m comeing from a premiere here and am new to fcp…..I am wanting to turn off the function that moves all the footage along after I delete a chunk of footage from the timeline.

Its very annoying when you have two tracks synced up and you go back and change something and it all moves as sepatate tracks. What this function called and How do iturn it off?

    Thanks
    Miles

You do need to learn how to use the application. If you’re deleting a clip and the sequence is moving you’re using the wrong delete key. Use the large delete key next to the equals key to do a lift edit. The forward delete key will remove a clip (or selected portion of the timeline) with the forward delete key, or Shift-delete.

    All the best,

    Tom

For the sake of clarity… it’s the “Backspace” key.

This perplexed me for months too, until one day I saw someone else use it. I was kinda peeved at myself for not figuring it out on my own… but hey, now I know.
