  • Timeline jerkiness after 6.1.6 Adrenaline upgrade?

Posted by Pat Furrie on August 31, 2005 at 10:45 pm

I recently (a week ago) upgraded our NewsCutter Adrenaline from 5.6 to 6.1.6. The original system was working O.K., but our news department wanted some of the changes which are present in the new version.

After upgrading, we’re finding we’re periodically getting the following error:

“Your hardware has detected a serious error.
Please quit the application and power cycle the hardware.
    [Error: DMPort Error]
    Error/Status [0x80000811]”

This is a stand-alone system, with all the hardware from Avid. The computer is an HP Pavilion wx8000 workstation, and no other software runs on it — it is dedicated to Avid. All the optimization settings from Avid have been applied. The latest Avid version of the nVidia video driver is loaded, and the associated nVidia service has been disabled.

The jerkiness happens when we try to move the marker in the timeline. The mouse pointer and/or the timeline marker will pause for about a second or two (or three), depending on what had happened previously. This is particularly evident when we’re trying to play anything on the connected DVCam deck (video and audio coming in via 1394 into the Adrenaline box).

The problem occurred immediately after the upgrade.

I’ve talked to Avid support, and they’ve had me do the obvious dumb stuff, to no avail. But different techs I talked to there had different ideas of the situation, in such a manner to make it obvious they’re shooting in the dark. One of them says that this is a known problem, though the two previous techs suggested nothing of the sort.

Anyhow… I don’t believe in phantom problems — there is something causing this, and I’d rather not thrash. Have any of your had any similar problems, and if so, what was your solution?

    Thanks
