timeline comp adjustment
Posted by Laurel Stalla on June 18, 2008 at 7:05 pmOkay this is almost embarrassing. I have one comp with three comps in it. I want to move/slide one of the comps over to the left a few frames. I can’t get it to move. This is so stupid but why won’t it adjust?

June 18, 2008 at 7:51 pmGrab the layer in the middle, not the end handle. The handles only move if there’s content to reveal, and if the layer starts at the beginning of its associated comp, you have no more frames available.
Also make sure you didn’t accidentally lock the layer.Joey Foreman

June 18, 2008 at 8:18 pmAhh, still won’t budge. I checked all three comps and each one starts at frame 0. None of them are longer than the time set in the main comp. (3 min Main comp, comp 1 – 1 min, comp 2 – 1 min, comp 3 30 secs.)
I checked every layer in every comp and none are locked up. I can see an icon and 4 faded vertical lines when I grab it in the center of any of the comps. It just won’t move. I just created a new main comp but none of my layers want to move.
Sorry to ask for more help, but…Help!! (please)

June 18, 2008 at 8:33 pmOkay this is weird. I simply walked away from the computer for a minute. When I came back I tried to move my comps and everyone of them moved.
Maybe my computer was being really slow or something. I swear I didn’t do anything and now it works the way it should.
Regardless, thanks for helping me. I’m sure I’ll be back with more questions soon : )

June 18, 2008 at 8:34 pmif you haven’t already, try rebooting… whenever ae acts in an unexplainable way, rebooting often helps…
also moving the ‘adobe after effects 8.0 prefs’ file to the desktop, or even the entire folder (named ‘8.0’) that contains that preference file to the desktop may help if rebooting doesn’t.

June 18, 2008 at 8:38 pmat 1 View, change to 4 view, that will literally make comps all have there own lil world. Let’s see AE screw that up!

June 18, 2008 at 10:05 pmThanks, the 4 views is a good idea.
I hate to admit this but what magically made it work was that I hit the ‘draft’ button. I didn’t realize that’s what I did to fix it until later.
Once I did that, it has been smooth sailing. (doh!)
