Alright, the situation goes like this. I am editing a half hour music show for a tv station.
I exported my movie on tape (mini DVCAM) using a DSR-11. On my machines (I tested 3 different DVCAM decks) the timecode plays perfectly. But on the TV station’s decks it doesn’t show any timecode whatsoever. The video plays on the monitors but the timecode stays stuck at 00:00:00:00.

The cassettes I used were 2nd hand so there already was timecode. Whata I did was rewind the tape from the start, then started recording from there using bars and tone for 30”, then black video for 1′ and then the movie itself. Is there something in the procedure I am doing wrong? I am not experienced in recording so any advice about the problem would be helpful. It’s really crazy, 4 different cassettes have timecode in 3 different decks of mine and none of them have timecode on their decks (I saw myself two DSR-1500s fail to read it)

I’ve run into this problem when I had tapes from a DVX100 that were shot in 24p mode, and tapes from a cannon XL1 shot in “frame mode”.. video played fine, I was able to capture the whole tape (without scene detection) and edit no problem, but timecode wasn’t recognized because the deck I played it back with didn’t support either of the original record methods, so it didn’t understand the timecode.

So, your case had to do with progressive vs. interlaced. Well then mine is stranger cuz there is nothing progressive with it…
