I’m familiar with the Timecode F/X feature in Vegas 6.0 and have used it a handful of times to create a “burn-in window” for clients to view interview outtakes and e-mail me their picks. But I’m experiencing a problem that I can’t figure out: as with previous projects, I’ve loaded individually captured clips of an interview and added the Sony Timecode plug-in F/X and applied the previously saved TC preference from other similar projects.

Only this time…the TC resets to “zero” with each outtake instead of progressing….or even revealing the actual “videotape timecode”. I’m stumped…I’ve done the same thing as in previous projects and even opened a saved project to see if there were any differences…there weren’t…

Is there a “prayer” or “chant” or “voo-doo dance” I need to do this time or is it something I’ve overlooked?

    Thanks in advance

Are you adding the timecode FX to the clips while they’re in the media pool?
Since it sounds like these brand new clips, is the internal battery on your camcorder working?
What I mean is, do you have your camcorder’s clock set?
Have a look at the recent Viewing timecode thread as your issues soud very similar to the problems John Magee was experiencing.

Hi Mike…and thanks for your reply.

I checked the link you provided to see if there were some similarities….yep…I’m experiencing the same issue as the other fella. But here’s the situation: my camcorder TC is fine…the other project I opened which had camera TC on the clips is from the same batch of tapes which this interview series of outtakes is coming from. So…no it’s not the camera.

As the other fella indicated, he ran the scripts…to no avail and then suddenly the TC was working. I’ve actually had the same issue before…and after randomly clicking the FX on and off and loading/removing/re-loading TC plug in…it worked for no verifiable reason.

I guess I’ll have to do the same thing again and hope for the best as I’m not having any success right now, even after loading the project that has camera original TC…hoping that might “jog Vegas into compliance”… I’m still stuck.

    Thanks anyway…

SOLVED!!: Re: Timecode Problem Vegas 6.0

Okay…I’ve somehow managed to “solve” my TC problem in Vegas 6.0. Here’s what I did…(can’t say this is how to do it…I just did it and got the desired results):

    1. Went to timeline with clips already in sequence.
    2. TOOLS…SCRIPT…..REMOVE TC FROM MEDIA
    3. Played back clips to verify TC is gone.
    4. TOOLS…SCRIPT…..ADD TC TO MEDIA
    5. Played back clips to verify TC is there…original camera TC is playing for no explainable reason.
    6. RESIZING TC BURN WINDOW: Placed Cursor on clip #1 and RIGHT CLICKED to open menu and CLICKED MEDIA FX…. the MEDIA FX WINDOW OPENED and I see TC PLUG IN ALREADY LOADED…Yay!!
    7. WENT TO “PRESET” and LOADED previously saved TC Window preference to increase size…NDF…Lower-Third-Right for TC WINDOW BURN….and closed window
    8. IT WORKS!!!

Okay…don’t know if any of this mattered or not…seems to be something to do with MEDIA FX Toggling back and forth…dunno…it’s just working now and that’s all I’m concerned with at the moment.

    Good Luck!
