    Hello everyone,

    Using FC5. 4*G5.

We have our masters on D5. A dupe with matching timecode on DVcam. If I use the Sony Dsr-11 and capture via firewire, will my timecode remain accurate? In the end I’ll need to make an EDL for the lab to go back online with, but for some reason I’m not sure if dsr-11 can do the job. If not, what do I need that cost effective and where can I rent it here in the city?

    Thanks in advance.

As long as a professional dub facility did the dub, and they timecode was put onto the DVCAM tapes, then yes, it will be accurate. And capturing it with the DSR-11 will retain the timecode.

Okay good. Yes. It was a professional facility. I just got a little nervous and feared a great headache somewhere down the road. A little preventative medicine. Thanks for the information.

Shane is correct, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you.
Timecode is supposed to be absolute but there are so many different applications in filmmaking that seem to like their own flavor of t/c.

Invest several hours of careful testing, especially if your DV dubs don’t have window burns. Your audio people need to be in this loop and anyone who is going to get that EDL should have a chance to test the integrity of your data.

What you’re trying to do is not difficult but it’s not without numerous, possibly fatal glitches. Get the kinks worked out long before you have a deadline staring you in the face.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
