hello, this is my first time posting on this forum. i’ve used the after effects forum with great success in the past,so thanks to anyone who can help with this problem.

it involves the always frustrating: timecode.

have a long project, shot in 24p on the panasonic dvx.

my setup: final cut 5.1, sequence set to dvntsc 48khz 23.98, capture preset to: dvntsc advance pulldown.

everytime i try and digitize whether it’s batch or just capture now, i get timecode break error messages telling me there’s a break where i’m pretty certain there isn’t a break: ie a clip that’s 30 seconds within a multiple-minute long clip.

the only way i’ve been able to get any footage in is by “capture now” and setting my device control to uncontrollable device. this isn’t really an option for the long run as i would like to have the timecode for these clips for problems that will surely arrise down the road.

i tried setting “warn after capture”on the timecode break preference and it didn’t help, tried setting firewire ntsc ndf on the device control, to no avail.

i just keeping get timecode error messages and have to hit esc.

my computer: 1.6ghz powerpc g5 w/3 gb ram.
two seagate 300gb external drives daisy chained into firewire eight hundred port, while a canon zr500 is used as a deck into my 400 port.

    i’m running OS X version 10.4.8

don’t know what to do and i realize that timecode breaks are a much treaded topic here. i tried searching throughout the internet, user manual, and previous posts, but could just really use some advice on this one. i’m really far behind on work and can’t really afford to lose so many more days.

hope everything is well with everyone,

    ignacio

    Hi Ignacio,
Try with the set-up “In Timecode break Make New Clip”. In my case it seems that this make desaper the timecode breaks, because I’ve never got a “new Clip”, only the one that I’ve logged.
    Salud,
    Rafael

I used to have these problems with my old XL1 when the head was misaligned. The TC info was written on the edge of the tape, or any little problem with TC was visible to FCP but often not to me. I think sometimes the gear can actually fill in TC problems when you’re going frame by frame on the tape possibly because it’s passing over the heads more slowly or something. But loading in real time the data just doesn’t get across.

The thing with my XL1 was that as the heads were misaligned, I could load directly off the camera just fine, because those heads were aligned for my tape, but if I put the tape in my DSR-11 it had problems.

You may need to copy the tape to another machine. Make sure you don’t clone the TC but get new TC.
