    Hello Group

I am considering getting a brand new Mac and could use some advice as to what desktop computer would be best for my needs. I am currently using a Mac G4 733 with the Pioneer DVD Superdrive. I use my Mac primarily for editing films with FCP version 2.2 and burning DVD

What is the best computer for FCP editing, a Mac Pro, an iMac or a G5?

G5 discontinued…. iMac you can’t expand or hook up your two monitors (depending on connection types you may need adapters)

Does anyone have any suggestions for an optimum set-up, for example the maximum number of hard drives, any additional graphics cards, as well as any other PCI cards that might be needed to edit HD?

WAY too many variables….. new towers hold four drives…. easy to install or get external… as far as HD.. which one of the 35 flavors?

Where is the best place to purchase a new machine?
Umm like where do you live

Will I also be able to network my old Mac with a new Mac?
    Yes

    Hi Howie,

Craigslist is a great place to look for used computers.

Because MAC has gone INTEL, you are taking a risk buying a used computer…

That being said, you can get amazing deals on used, dual processor G5s all over the internet.. They will seem LIGHTENING quick compared to what you are using now and they can be found for $1000-$2000

Rendering that took you hours will only take minutes.

Plus, all your old software will continue to work on a G5 Powermac.. you will have to update($$) FCP if you buy a new computer…

BUT, if money is no object.. go for the gusto and get a new INTEL MAC.

    cheers
