I have tried a number of different methods to increase the duration of a clip, and all have failed. I have a 3 second section of a 30 second clip that I need to play at about 85% speed. I have used the blade to trim the section I want and tried to edit the speed with cmd-j. That gives me a trim error. Reading some of the messages here and other places, I tried putting the clip on it’s own layer and locking the other layers. No error message, but this time it just gives me a freeze-frame for the whole clip. I tried loading it into the viewer, setting the correct in/out points in the viewer and the timeline, then doing a fit-to-fill. This just sticks the clip in with completely incorrect in/out points. This seems like such a simple task, cmd-j, set speed. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

When I get this warning, I move the bladed clip portion I want to retime to the end of the timeline, make the time adjustment, increase the gap where the clip portion is to be inserted by moving all the clips from the insert point on to the right by an aproximate amount, then I drop the retimed clip portion back into the timeline and if there is a gap, move all the following clips back.

It’s very manual & there may well be a more elegant way of doing this!

But watch out when you are moving the clips along the timeline to make the gap for the retimed clip, that you do not get any of your video or audio out of sync!

Yeah, I tried that too. I get the same results as before. Using the time remap (cmd-j) just creates a freeze frame effect. When I googled the problem, another site suggested deleting prefs, which I don’t really want to do but I do want to fix this.
