Just need the perspective of some top notch editors here…

Tomorrow, I have to shoot a construction crew assembling a building for a car dealership. A time lapse sequence of this process is desired by the client.

I have to shoot this with an Ikegami Betacam, so I have no frame grab hardware or anything that resembles an intervalometer.

How should I shoot this? I’ll need to be on site w/camera locked down for about 8 hours. How often should I roll tape and for how long? This will be eventually cut on an Avid.

    thanks.

I think it would depend on

    a) how long the construction will take (is it only going to be the 8 hrs? or will it be multiple days?)
    b) how long does the client want the overall Time Lapse to be in the final edit
    c) will you be speeding up the footage or just showing a bit here and there in real-time?

But as a general guide I’d roll for 15 mins or so every 30 mins??

shoot first minute, leave camera locked off, treat yourself to a very long lunch, go back and shoot last minute, load to avid, mix from one to another, if nothing changes apart from the light then the story’s not worth following!

Or, follow the advice in thread, but when you’re loading back to avid load wild with no code at your on-line resolution with the beta running at full rate dmc.
