Time Code errors
Hi all
Totally new to CC so my apologies in case of errors.
I am having problems with the time code of a large number of files, the telecine of a feature recently shot. The files were given to me as 8-bit uncompressed and they all have the time and key code burned onto the image. Additionally, they all contain a time code track. And this is where the madness begins.
I opened the files in two macs and the results where puzzling. In one of them QT could read the time code but there was a 2 to 3 secs discrepancy between the burned code and the one in the counter left of the transport controls. QT in the other mac could not read the time code track at all. Although the track appears in the movie properties, it cannot be checked or extracted or… anything. If I segment the file into smaller parts (3 to 5 secs) everything is normal. In this particular machine, FCP refuses to import the .mov file producing a “file xxxxxxxxxx.mov cannot be found and the movie will not play properly”! What infuriates me is that in windows QT reads the time code with not problems or errors! The tc problem is evident in cinema tools. Importing the flex and movie files produces the same kind of tc discrepancy. So far I got rid of all non fcp codecs installed in both machines but no joy. Any ideas suggestion and, indeed, solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a million.
