I am trying to creat a tiling effect where every other square is a different color like dark blue, light blue and so on and I want text to tile into a sentence like text tiling at a train station. How?

“Tiling” in AE-speak is a motion effect. You seem to be asking about how to construct a wall that looks like tiles. That’s a Photoshop question AFAICT. I have no idea what text on tiles at a train station looks like in your head. You mea a reader board or enamel paint or glazing?

The Mosaic filter will convert a gradient into adjustable flat pixel blacks that can be placed under a grid to simulate the grout lines, bevel alpha next.

If you refer to the flipping letters of a departures/arrivals board at a train station or airport you should do a quick little search on the COW. There have been numerous posts about this over the years including these two I just found.
