  with 10.5.4 Drivers I see again a lot of lag when using AV-Preview in FCPX.
  I hit space to play and the video will start only a couple of moments later (1-2 sec) then it will skip some frames (5 sec) until it plays smoothly.

  When you turn AV-Preview off, the problem is gone.

  This is on a 2013 Mac Pro with Yosemite
