About to start a show where one of the producer/directors is gonna do a rough cut and send to the house I’ll be post supering at for on-line. Shooting Varicam HD. Final finish/on line will be on FCP system that’s already set up and running o.k. to handle Varicam in & out.

O.k. here’s my question: east coast producer/director of one hour of a 4 hr series, has AVID EXPRESS PRO 4.6 WITH MOJO; the proposed work flow would be for the shoot tapes be sent to post HQ (west coast) for digging and then drives sent to him to rough cut.

Then on lined back at post HQ for final.

What I’m trying to avoid is spending a lot of time trying to deal with 2 different systems when it’s only one of four shows.

And, if it does come down to doing it this way, any thoughts on what format/codec to send for an AVID box running on a HP WORKSTATION XW8000 that’ll be easy?

    Thanks guys.

Man, not only do you have to switch editing apps, you have competing OS platforms as well?

Really, to save your sanity, I would clone all the tapes, have one set on each coast, then use Automatic Duck to swap timelines. ( https://www.automaticduck.com/ ) That way you both have the media in both of the formats you need, and then you are swapping data only at that point. In order to ensure that both of you are working off the same timings, you capture in one platform (Avid or FCP) all of the material you think you will need, then export that whole project for recapturing in the other using automatic duck and/or sebsky tools (https://www.dharmafilm.com/sebskytools/0

No need to send drives back and forth to systems that won’t like or can’t use the media on them.

    Make sense?

Only problem—there’s no VariCam deck for the AVID system.

I dunno, been couple years since I (reluctently) made the switch to Final Cut as my primary
system. Guess there’s some research in order.

    Thanks,

Yes, research, otherwise you will drive yourself nutso trying to figure it out. If you plan well, it might only be a day rental on the other end. Build in to the budget now. There’s no time like the present.
