This scenario is bringing me to the brink of career change.
I have 28 – 29.97HD PBS programs that need to be converted to this
File MPEG-2:
– File format : . mpg
– Bitrate: 15Mbps (Constant bit rate)
– Res:720×576 – 4:2:2
– GOP: 15
– Frame rate: 25fps
– Audio: Stereo – 48Khz – 16 bit – 192 or 224 or 384 kbps
– Ch 1-full mix , Ch2- M/E
The main problem is getting the split tracks of audio, and maintaining the .mpeg file
I can convert the video and audio separately and then match them up through quicktime pro, but then i lose the .mpeg and get .mov.
Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED!

You need to check “Stream Usage; Generic”.
Then on the “Extras’ tab set:
– YUV 422
– Multiplexed MPEG-1/layer 2 Audio
– Program Stream.
You will get an “.mpg” with embed audio.

I actually tried this first, and it might of worked but there isnt a way for me to double check(as far as I know) the audio and make sure the stereo mix and M &E are on different channels.
The .mpeg file would only import video and no audio into FCP. I wanted to be able to double check it before i began my 28 show run.
Do you know of a way to check that .mpeg file? When it plays in quicktime it looks fine and sounds fine.
I think I might of figured out a solution writing this. What if I saved the .mpeg as a .mov in quicktime and then brought it in FCP……
They gave me this other option too,
File DV – AVI:
– File format : . avi
– Bitrate: 25Mbps (CBR)
– Res:720×576
– Frame: 4:3
– Frame rate: 25fps
– Audio: Stereo – 48Khz – 16 bit
– Field : Upper/ lower field
* Ch 1-full mix , Ch2- M/E
FCP exports AVIs through quicktime conversion but its very limited in settings…thats why I went the mpeg2 routeBradley J.

The quicktime double check didnt work, still just brought in the video track….

If you have your video and audio cut at the exact same length in the proper format, I’d go for FFPEGX’s Mux function, under Tools. You provide locations for your audio and video files, it muxes them as .mpeg. As with most things FFMPEGX, it can be a bit finicky but if you have all your ducks lined up, it works perfectly.
