    Hi,

I’ve read through all the threads tried all the techniques and my FCP7 project file is still giving me the error message:
This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut

I’ve been working on the project on my tower and had to open project on my laptop. Since then the file has not been working.

I have done the following tasks:
    – opened the file on 3 different computers
    – changed user accounts
    – deleted preference file
    – zapped the PRam
    – copied file and changed name
    – downloaded the program Digital Rebellion App Launcher, did not work
    – and no I do not have a auto save project file. I was working on another project and turn that function off because I kept getting error messages. I forgot to turn it back on, so no auto save

Is there anyway to fix this?

Are the versions of FCP on both machines the EXACT same version? 7.0.3 to 7.0.3?

So you used it on your tower, tried to open it on the laptop…that didn’t work, and now you can’t open it ANYWHERE? And you only have ONE COPY of that project file?

I have 3 machines all running on 7.0.3 all don’t want to open file.

I was working on the tower. Then moved it on the laptop to do a quick export, same hardrive Graid. While it was on the laptop it opened but crashed on one export. I then opened it up again on the laptop worked fine. Then 2 days later I moved it back to the tower same Graid and now it’s corrupt. I tried everything on all threads nothing is working.

I know I’m kicking myself in the butt right now, the auto vault option was turned off from a previous project and I forgot to turn it back on. The auto-save was crashing my previous project not related to this one.

So no copies of the project anywhere? Didn’t have it on the local drive of the Tower, copy it to the media drive, copy THAT project to the laptop before you opened? Don’t have the one on the tower? Did it ONLY exist in one place?

Always backup your project to two locations. I work with it on the Mac Drive, then back up to the media drive…or a thumb drive. ALWAYS have two copies.

I had previous versions of the project copied to other locations. Then saved it as a new version and forgot to save it to a new location.

    Only 1 project file exists.

Is there any way to fix the corrupt file or am I out of luck?

Try these tools. Something every editor should have. There is a project repair tool as well as a crash analyzer:
