    hey all,

I am currently wanting to buy a deck, for capturing and printing to video,

what i want it to do:

    capture dv tapes
    capture dvcam tapes
    capture HDV 720p AND 1080i

Is Sony HVR-M35 a good buy??
    or the JVC BR-DV6000E

    thanks all

    Be careful.

This might be the one that DOES NOT have RS-422 control.

There is one that has it and one that does not.

definitely get the one with rs-422 control.

It has Firewire control. No issues whatsoever quite honestly. We’ve been using them well over a year now.

As far as I know, JVC 720p tapes and Sony HDV 1080i tapes cannot play in the same players.

there was some issue with not being able to control through firewire and capture SDI uncompressed If I recall.

We only capture via SDI from these machines. Component out of the machine through an AJA HD10AVA to convert video and audio to SDI and then we either capture SD or HD to DVCPro HD, ProRes or uncompressed.

Not really sure what issue would arise just from a video format or pipeline. Never heard of the issue you’re referring to. We have three edit systems that can connect to either of the two HDV decks and none of them have any issue controlling the machines via Firewire.

A lot of HDV users have reported incompatibilities when using tapes recorded in various Canon – JVC – or Sony cameras and trying to play back from another manufacturers deck. Apparently because of different GOP structures used in the different manufacturers formats there are some playback issues with some of this equipment. I have no 1st hand knowledge of this but I’ve seen many posts on these forums in the past regarding this.
