  • thin border on top and right of fcpx video

Posted by Chris Moore on October 28, 2011 at 1:18 am

I am editing canon 5D mark 2 footage in final cut pro x and am getting a thin space on the top and right of the player.

so if I export a frame or the movie itself I get a black line on the top and right for some reason. Any ideas why? It is as if the image has been moved down and to the left (which I haven’t done!)

Here is an exported frame as an example
    3156_11101yusan.jpg.zip

And here is the exported video

If I change the player background to white in the preferences then the border becomes white.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Chris

Can you post a small piece of the original video somewhere?

    All the best,

Thanks for the reply Tom. Unfortunately I am travelling over the next couple of days so I can’t but it is just standard 1080p 2canon 5d mark 2 stuff.

Strange. Worked with a lot of Mk II camera media last week and didn’t see that problem. Looked at the finished videos from the workshop and none showed this problem. Wonder if it’s an issue in the project properties.

    All the best,

    Tom

Yes, I had a feeling it could be something like that but you can’t actually change any of the project properties as far as I am aware.

Travelling with my MacBook pro at the moment and final cut pro x on that doesnt show the same problem.

the weird thing is, this black border is only for the video’s I edit on my iMac (latest version i5) not my 3 year old macbook pro.

I have checked the original files and the proxy files in the finder and they don’t have this weird border on the top and right. Only on the export video and jpg, as shown above.

And if I start a project and event on the macbook and then import them to the iMac and work on them there is no border….

any ideas anyone? driving me crazy!

Found what the problem is. I am using the Pomfort DSLRLog2Video effect and that is causing the image to shift to the left and down. No idea why. Have contacted Pomfort for a solution hopefully.

Relieved to find the cause, now just need the solution.
