  • The Very Best Way to Recover Deleted Files from a CF Card and/or Hard Drive?

Posted by Thomas Hughes on January 5, 2014 at 5:13 pm

We shot video on a Canon 5D Mark III camera, transferred the files to a hard drive, then deleted the files from the CF card and reused it. We thought we were done with the files on the hard drive but weren’t, mistakenly deleted them and have reused the hard drive.

What software or professional service will give us the very best shot at retrieving any of these files? Thank you.

    Hi, Thomas.
I have used Seagate File Recovery many times with good results.

It’s gona be a slow proces but maybe you can save something from the HDD.
If you have used the CF many times after that then you probably can’t find anything there.
    Good luck.

If you started adding files to the drive you erased the footage from…new media or other files…then the chance of a good recovery gets worse and worse. When you delete files, all you do is say “this part of the hard drive is now available for use.” If you don’t do anything to the drive, the files are still there. But, if you add files you risk writing on top of the area the old files were on.
