[Helmut Kobler] “Hopefully this will be an unusually long keynote with room for iOS 6 and then Mac Pros by the end. ;-)”

Methinks we got all the hardware stage time we are going to get…

    Best,

[Lance Bachelder] “Who needs 17″ when you have a retina display?”

I would have liked one. With retina display, we have to think about pixel resolution and spatial resolution separately. Retina display UI elements (so far) are the same physical size as their non-retina counterparts so that they are still legible and easily manipulated (though of course they have higher pixel counts). Retina displays are about sharper display, not more expansive display.

Practically speaking, the physical size of the video window in FCPX may be the same, but now it’s 1080p @ 100% instead of 540p. The type in the UI elements are noticeably sharper, but likely still takes about the same proportion of total screen space. Sharper, not larger.

At 2880×1800, the 15″ Next Generation MBP (MBP:TNG?) has about 25% more pixels than my 30″ monitor has in about a quarter of the physical area. Yowza.

    That’s a nice-looking notebook.

    I would also like 17″

But that would mean a 4k display, and perhaps out of reach for mobile graphics cards? I don’t know.

Getting cloudy over this parade. Considering the leaked specs on the new Mac Pros turned out to be bogus, it don’t look like we’ll hear anything today. It could make a nice one more thing, but I doubt it.

FCPXs sales numbers are bad news for some on this forum, if you ask me.

My one and only point is that this idea that Apple killed a successful product is nonsense. They’ve NOW built something that might be successful enough someday, in ways that Legacy could never possibly have been. But this is the first Apple video product for pros that’s in it for the long haul.

I mean, are you looking at these numbers today? Hundreds of millions of this, billions of that, whatever. These are numbers almost beyond comprehension. At $295, they’re clearly not expecting iWorks numbers, but seriously, you have to way, way scale up your expectations of Apple’s expectations.

Not that it might be good news for any particular person in this forum.

Not that I think it’s not cool to buy a new car for Siri integration. I think it’s awesome. I can’t wait. I’m going with Jaguar. Since I can’t have a car that’s actually named after Apple, I’m going for the one named after a cat, just like the Mac OS!

But seriously man, over 100 minutes in, and I’m having a hard time keeping my eyes open. I mean, it’s been like an hour since they dropped Scarlett Johansson’s name. Does your church service even run this long?Somebody wake me when they announce the Mac Pro.

    Even if it’s September. LOL

Will the new thin MBP run FCP 6? Avid MC 3.5? Anyone have experience with this?
