I realize this is an old thread, but I got the same message today trying to open a project from version 7.2.2 in a previous version of Premiere CC. When I updated, all was well.

Ray Lewis you literally saved my ass.

This worked for me> opened New Project> changed Sequence settings to match my project> Import> Box pop up asking if you want to Import only selected sequences> choose the most important one> open = works like a charm

Tried changing codecs in TextEditor didn’t work! This one was the simplest and best solution so far!!
