July 8, 2012 at 2:24 pmAs far as I know, you don’t have to go through such extensive measures to regain your project.
I faced the same exact issue with the sequence message and tried numerous computer restarts as well as other methods, but to no avail. However, I opened a new project today and imported the lost sequence into the new project’s media browser, and thus it was all right as rain. Try that before anything else, I suppose. It’s not the world’s answer to the issue, but it’s a good way to beat around the bush.

July 9, 2012 at 2:57 amThanks for the tip, but I decided to go back to Sony Vegas in the end. I did complete an entire project using the trial version of Premiere Pro, so it was reasonably well tested. I was having too many issues with Premiere Pro and I found the approach to editing to be slow and cumbersome by comparison. Vegas does everything I need it to do and it is orders of magnitude faster to cut and edit on the timeline not simply because I have more experience with it, but because it’s just more efficient. Less tool switching, less clicking, less need for keyboard shortcuts.

November 16, 2012 at 3:49 amThis is an old thread but I’ve found a solution that doesn’t require a complete reinstall or starting over with a new project file. Not saying it’ll work for everyone but I thought it’s only right to share. After all, I’m sure someone will do a Google search for this problem in the near future.
Go to your auto-save folder and find the most recent auto-save. Open it. Hopefully it auto-saved recently and you didn’t lose a ton of work. If the most recent auto-save won’t open then try the one before and so on and so on. Now right click on a sequence. Go to “Sequence Settings.”
Look at “Video Previews.” Mine was reading Width: 16 and Height: 16. I have no idea if that’s right but it seemed unusual to me. I hit the “Reset” button next to it and it went back to 1920 and 1080 respectively.
I changed “Preview File Format” to “QuickTime (Desktop)” and “Codec” to H.264. All my footage is from a Canon 60D so this intuitively makes sense to me. No idea if this is optimal. Hit “OK” and “OK” again.
Now do this for every single sequence in your project.
I saved, quit, and reopened my newly altered project and it worked without a problem.
Again, I have no idea if the changes I made to “Video Previews” are optimal or “correct” but I do know that my project now opens and that I ultimately saved my project (not to mention hours upon hours of work).
Anyway, if you find yourself a similar predicament, give it a shot. You don’t really have much to lose.

January 21, 2013 at 7:43 amHello every one!! 🙂
I had the same problem, I digged over the whole internet to find a solution but none of them was working for me.
A friend send me a file and when I was trying to open it I get the same error.
One of the solutions given in the forums was to open the project with notepad++ and to replace the wrong/missing codec with existing one. I noticed that this wasn’t the problem because I had the codecs used in the file. I search the codecs on my computer and noticed that they are in different folder from the one listed in the my friend’s file. For example my folder was 678af98-… and so on and the folder listed in the file was different, so I only replaced the folder and the files OPENSS! I was soo happy! 🙂
You should check very carefully that the path of the codecs is correct and is following to the exact folder with the codecs on your machine. What was more in the file that i was trying to open was many video files, that couldn’t be loaded, because the path in the file ( again viewed with notepad) was the old one ( the one of my friend that make and sent me the file), so I changed it to my directory and everything was fine! Check all the folders and replace with yours. Hope this will help to anyone and saves him hours ( that I lost in searching)! 🙂Best!

February 6, 2013 at 8:53 amIn my workflow, when importing a premiere sequence (exported from after effects) into my main project, it’s always the same: I close my main project and cannot re-open it again. Because with the imported Project, there came the I-Frame Only MPEG.epr as the preview setting, and this needs to be changed to Microsoft AVI.epr in Notepad, then save, then open again – with success!

February 27, 2013 at 8:53 amAllright, just had that situation too.
In any way, You can import Your “corrupted” project in another new one – does this help?
That was my last chance with some projects… And if this new file again don’t open afer closing it the first time, then it helps to re-edit again the file in notepad like described before.

May 10, 2013 at 5:35 pmI had the same problem. Almost had a heart attack..
The Solution (it worked for me)
Make a new project with the same settings as the old one. Go to import, find your old project. Select it and a box will come up asking you whether you want to import the whole project or just selected sequences. Chose selected sequences, then find the sequence you were working on and import it to the new project. You will have your cut, but you may have to re-import some missing video files.

May 11, 2013 at 7:27 pm1- Open the premiere file in notepad++.
2- Goto “Search – Replace” (Or Ctrl+H).
3- In the “Find What”, put “I-Frame Only MPEG.epr”
4- In the “Replace With” – put “Microsoft AVI.epr”.
5- Click “Replace All”, Save.
6- Open in Premiere, Works like a charm 🙂 -

January 6, 2014 at 4:05 pmSolution: Method 1
Close Premiere Pro.
Open the project file in a text editor (e.g. Windows Wordpad) and replace all instances of “I-Frame Only MPEG” with “Microsoft AVI”.
Relaunch Premiere Pro and test it.
Solution: Method 2
If the first method doesn’t work, try the following steps (read all the steps before you begin):Deactivate Premiere Pro if possible (this option may not be available).
Uninstall Premiere Pro.
Download and run the Adobe Cleaner Tool at least twice, rebooting after each run.
Reinstall Premiere Pro.
Before launching Premiere Pro for the first time, update to the latest version.
Launch and test Premiere Pro.
