The Mystery of the DV Capture Fail
Might there be a QuickTime update that affects DV capture? I have been shooting HDV lately and capturing via firewire from a Sony HDR-FX1 camera. Been working great. Today I need to return to an older program in the DV format. I fired up the Sony DSR-11 deck- FCP can’t see it. Did all the usual trouble shooting stuff- disconnect, reboot, etc., all with varying degrees of fail. Sometimes FCP wouldn’t open at all, sometimes it would, but not see the DSR-11. Next, I switched to capture from a Sony VX2100- same deal. This is all on my main system- specs should be listed in my signature below.
I have a backup G5 with the same FCP loaded for emergencies. I connected the VX2100 to it and it captured just fine. So I am able to capture to the G5, move a hard drive to the Mac Pro, import and be in business. This seems like a goofy route to take. I used the same firewire cable and hard drive on both systems, so I’m guessing they’re okay.
Here’s more info on the 2 systems:
G5: OS 10.5.8 FCP 6.0.6 QuickTime 7.7
Mac Pro: OS 10.6.8 FCP 6.0.6 QuickTime 10Oh, and for the DV project I used the old DV-NTSC Easy Set up as always.
Something is different. Any ideas??
