The low down on Pull Down
Posted by Seawild on August 30, 2006 at 10:45 pmHowdy,
I’m tring to use the DV NTSC Advanced (2:3:3:2)Pulldown Removal capture preset. I keep getting a “General Error” Message.
I am using a 1ghz Powerbook with a gig a ram and FCP 5.1
Does this work? Or should I just use CinemaTools?
thanks!, Chris

August 30, 2006 at 10:54 pmOk..
So now it is capturing but after it captures it plays at 29.98.If it is capturing and removing pulldown, should it not play at 23.98 once it is in a bin?
Thanks, Chris

August 30, 2006 at 11:00 pmSo the check box says “Remove Advanced Pulldown from DV-25 and DV-50 scorces.”
Is a consumer DV camera, DV-25 or DV-50? Or do I need a special deck?

August 30, 2006 at 11:06 pmYo Shane,
It was shot on 16mm, (16×9 framing @ 1.78), then telecined to D5 and downconverted to 29.98 consumer DV anamorphic 16×9. I am tring
to capture off a JVC DVL 310.I am tring to stay in 23.98 TC so the TC will match the D5 and hopfuly make the online easy.
We are not going back to film. Video finish to 24fps DVD.
Thanks, Chris

August 30, 2006 at 11:07 pmIf the material is being captured and is appearing as 29.97, it sounds as you used the wrong pulldown and the tape was not really shot in advanced but in 24p normal.
All the best,
Tom

August 30, 2006 at 11:10 pmSo I have to use Cinema Tools to remove pulldown…
Advanced Pulldown is for the Panasonic stuff right?
Thanks Tom!

Advanced pulldown removal is for video cameras that Shoot 24PA…the Panasonics.

August 31, 2006 at 2:49 amlook closely on your FCP install CD, there are extra presets in the extras folder that help you capture footage with normal 3:2 pulldown in order to edit 23.98. I don’t have them in front of me right now, but they are called dv 23.98 Cinema Tools or something like that. load those in and you can avoid cinema tools. It’s much easier.
