    Righto here goes….

Our office has taken in some work from another director which is all shot using the sony ex1 and shot in xdcam.

The director brought round a hard drive with the project data on and we installed the sony software required, from sony’s website (final cut pro/XDCAM transfer v.2..8.0) but were unable to view the footage as it was all offline.
Upon trying to reconnect media the following pathway was listed:

    “RAID ARRAY:users:directorsname:movies:idents”

Am i right in assuming that the media fcp was searching for was located on the directors computer and not on the hard drive with all the other media and project files?

secondly, if i am receiving the media after being ingested and made ready for fcp do i need to install the sxs driver?

hope this post makes sense, thanks for any adivce…..

oh and i’m using os 10.5.5 qt 7.5.5 and fcp 6.05..

That’s where the media was last time FCP launched. You need to manually reconnect the files (after you reconnect one all others in the same file path should reconnect automatically).

IIRC, no. The proper codec to playback EX footage came as part of a FCP update. You only need the Sony xfer software and driver if you are getting files directly from the camera (as opposed to files already re-wrapped for FCP).

Sounds like he imported all the footage and then copied it to this hard drive. All you really need to do (I think) is RECONNECT the footage, and point FCP a that drive. Is all the footage LOOSE on that drive? Or is there a CAPTURE SCRATCH folder?

If the footage was already imported, you do not need the SxS driver.

Many thanks for the advice, its all sorted. If i am to work with the converted footage do i still need the original data? i am receiving it on a hard drive from the director where he has a back up copy of everything. So it seems like a lot of data to send if i can only work with the Fcp friendly data….
