After seeing the JohnAdobe video that the Conan editors did, I was very impressed with where CS6 is going overall. The interface looks more strealmined and seems like it will be easier to use, especially during long edit sessions. And the audio meters aren’t microscopic anymore, which is really nice to see.

One thing that did disappoint me a little, though, is the disappearance of the jog wheel that’s under the program and source monitors. For doing a slow scrub through a video, I really liked using it. The same thing can be accomplished by scrubbing the timecode numbers on the left side of the monitor, but the placement of the jog wheel right under the center of the video made it feel more natural. It also looked pretty cool.

The timeline still has tracks, so I won’t complain too much, but I am gonna miss that thing.

    Rest in Peace, jog wheel…

We may be able to just mouse over the viewer or program window and use the wheel there to move frame by frame. That would be cool.

You can do that now actually. It is pretty cool. It’s not as fluid as scrubbing the timecode or jog wheel though, since you have to repeatedly take your finger off the wheel and reposition it so you can scroll it again.

I use a ShuttlePro; wouldn’t want to edit without one. But then, I cut my editing teeth on analog gear.

Quick question for Jeff (or anyone else):

What is your setup with the Shuttle Pro – in your right or left hand, and how do you use it in conjunction with the keyboard (and mouse if applicable) for editing?

I am particularly interested because of your comment about cutting teeth on analogue gear.

I just picked one up for cheap and looking for recommendations, in case they are not the same as the obvious ones I can think of myself.
