The I need to update my 1 year old G5 blues!
Okay, so recently left a gig where I had access to a Kona 2 G5 system, and now am left finishing two films on my own rig. I have a dual 2.5G5. One film, is on DVCproHD the other, shot 35mm will be coming on either D5 or SR (depending on the budget) and possibly a 2k film scan (If they really get a the budget! – Which I am not expecting)
Before yesterday’s new announcement from AJA, I was going to invest in a Kona 2 which will let me do the HD work, and most importantly the dual link HD if the telecine goes that route. Obviously a Kona LH will not suffice if I want dual link, but I have found Kona 2s still available at certain vendors.
But would that be a bad investment? Should I scrap my G5 (which is a year old) and get a Quad, just so I can buy the more stabile investment of a Kona 3?
What are your thoughts?P.S> I have everything else, HD monitors, SATA Raid drives, ect., all I need is an input/output card.
