  • The following media files are not optimized for final cut pro error

I had some RED files converted by a third party and when I tried to import them into FCP 7.0.3 I got the following message:

The following media files are not optimized for final cut pro.

It is highly recommended that you either recapture the media or use the media manager to create new copies of the files to improve there performance in multi-stream playback.

When I use the QT7 inspector to look at them, they’re ProRes 422 but 2048×1152, not 1920×1080, is that the issue? They play fine, and I don’t get an orange render line until I overlay 3 clips with an add. I did a whole film at this resolution and don’t recall getting the error.

The only difference here is that I did the conversion for the film in FCP, and in this case a third party did the conversions for me.

    Anybody else have this issue?

Thanks in advance for your help & cooperation.

Do you have a capture card/monitoring device?

If so, this error can sometimes be thrown if the footage doesn’t match the video output. You shouldn’t have any problems.

No capture card…just the graphics card that feeds my flatscreen. An Apple Cinema display…
