  • The final project is going to be Up-res to HD:Settings?

I’m working on an D1 NTSC project that was shot 16X9. The final graphics are going to be Up-Converted to HD. I know that I need to tell the avid editor to export all the footage to me 720X486 – 16×9. It’s been a while since I worked in a 16X9 project so I just wanted to make sure my workflow is correct. If anyone has any advise on certain things that I should look out for, it would be greatly appreciated. My normal workflow for a regular 4X3 project is to bring in the footage, interpolate the footage
lower field first. Then I create all my comps 720X540, and stretch all the footage to fit to frame. I work in 720X540 in all my comps. Then when I do my final render, in the output module in the render que I choose “stretch” and choose 720X486 from the pull down menu.

    Now,

When I work in a 16X9 project, can I use this same workflow? ie: When I create my comps, can I still choose 720X540, but under the aspect ratio: I choose D1 DV NTSC Widescreen? I work this way in all my comps, then when I render, (in the output module in the render que), I choose stretch and choose 720X486 from the pull down menu. Just like how I work in the 4X3 project? I know when I click on the pixel aspect ratio correction It will show my what its really going to look like.

Simply what I’m wondering is: can I work the same way as I work ion the 4X3 project? but when I create my comps I choose D1/DV NTSC Widescreen?

Hope someone can lend some advise,

    Thanks,

    A

They’re having some budget issues, Its for an award show. All the footage was shot 16X9 D1 NTSC. The show is broadcasted in HD but all of the graphics/Animation & editing for the show is being done 16X9 NTSC so they can upconvert it with minamal problems. Its seems wierd to me, but I have no control over this.

“I’d work in a 864×486 square-pixel comp. It’s 16×9. When I was done, I’d put it into a 720×486 D1 comp, scale the layer to fit the comp (Command-Option-f Mac) and render.”

—–Correct me if I’m wrong but this seems like more work then it needs to be, when I can just work in a 720X540 square pixel- D1/DV NTSC Widscreen comp. Then use pixel aspect ratio correction to view it as it will look correctly. Then when I render just select stretch in the output moual and select 720X486 in the dropdown menu.

    No sure I’m understanding. Sorry,
