So a client wants me to create a horizon-esque envorinment where photos of people pop up, looking like a harvest of people. Then a camera flys through this field, stopping momentarily on one person, absorbing information from then, and eventually flying the camera into the rising sun.

What i’ve done thus far, is to take a solid in after effects fake 3d. Z-rotate it to create the ground. Leave a non 3d layer behind that to represent the sky.

Precomped that, then made a new comp that has a ton of photographs of people masked out and spread throughout the thing.

I’m not quite happy with how the “depth” of it looks. Any advice?

    thx

For that real feel of depth, think about going into AE 3D Land.

“Expresssing the Camera” by Rick Gerard is a must see movie for flying a camera around in AE 3D Land.

It comes with a cheat sheet, footage and aep.

    Hey,

another thing to do is take a look out the window and see how the earth makes distance. Look and study how it all works. You’ll notice that everything becomes a little more flat due to a little bit of fog (hazey air and the fact that the sky is blue), then you can also use depth of field only slightly to bring focus only into the foreground, but those 2 a lone will help create so much depth .. I saw an expression that does FOG on this forum and it’s tied to your camera so look in to that too, have fun .. sounds like an awesome project.
