The best way to clean up audio with crowd noise..
I shot a video that included some on the spot interviews with crowd noise in the background, and now I’m trying to salvage what I possibly can.
I know there’s not much you can do about a whole bunch of different voices talking at the same time in the background, but I’m hoping there might be at least something I can do to make it better. I’m not an audio expert by any means, but have some limited experience with Adobe Audition, which is what I’d be using.

If you can get a clean sample of the crowd noise without the interview sound, you should be in good shape to use the Sound Remover Effect, which establishes a “noise floor”, which can then be removed from the clip:

The trick will be to not try to completely remove the crowd noise, just reduce it.

Another technique for solving this problem is to use a parametric equalizer. Since we need to focus on the recorded voice (let’s say between 300 and 1200Hz, we have to reduce the rest of the frequency band (especially the bass). This is not a magic recipe, but it allowed me to repeatedly solve these problems.
The important thing is not to overdo your Eq manipulations to prevent denaturing the voice. Sometimes it is better to use 2 o 3 eq with gentle corrections than one Eq with drastic settings. Depending on the nature of your recording an expander with adequate setting can help.
