  • The best video preset for a DVD movie?

I just started working with sony vegas pro 10 (after upgrading from the platinum version) and I recently started to make a mini movie, but unlike last time, I want to publish it as a dvd. I tried some tests with rendering the video as AVI uncompressed and mpeg 2 but once I loaded it into DVD architect pro or windows dvd maker, It squished the video inwards. I published it as 16:9, but when I played it back on my flat screen, It pushed the video towards the center.

The footage I am using from my camcorder is:
    720p @ 30fps 16:9 ratio
    Under project properties:
    Template: Custom (1280×720, 29.930 fps)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0000 (Square)
    Pixel format: 8-bit

So basically, what is the best preset or custom setting to make a DVD without quality loss? I don’t want to keep wasting DVDs trying to test different presets.

Also, what is a good setting for publishing a movie under Corel Moviestudio? I kind of like using that one better than DVD architect.

I asked a similar question recently, and John Rofrano gave a spot on answer:

[John Rofrano] “You should go to File | Render As… then select MainConcept MPEG2 with the DVD Architect 24p NTSC Widescreen video stream template. Then go back and do the same for the audio using the Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro codec and the Stereo DVD template. Use this video and audio file to author your DVD in DVD Architect.”

Instead, of course, you would choose DVD Architect NTSC Video Stream to match your source frame rate.

Give DVD architect another chance <3!
