the best and fast way to move a project with media to another pc
Posted by Trunchiator on August 9, 2006 at 12:27 amI want to find a better way to move a project between two PC.Untill now i do like this: i copy the project from avid projects and paste into 2`nd pc. I copy all media from omfi media file and imported again into 2`nd. It is time consuming. There is a best way to move ENTIRE media? It is an faster export option than copying the omfi media file? Thank you!

August 9, 2006 at 2:44 amHi….
Well…for one thing…if you copy all OMFI…then you are copying the media for all the projects on your system, not just the oneyou are working with….
if you connect a fire wire drive or have the other computers Video volume mounted on you machine, then you can open the media tool, search for all media being used by the current project and then consolidate the found results to the new destination.
this will cut down what’s being copied to just the material used in your current project…

August 9, 2006 at 9:01 amI am shure there is a way to move a project using just Avid. Of course, when i say that i move the media from OMFI media file i move just revealing the media linked to that project. The question still remaining: how can i move a project to another PC using just Avid editor in a easy elegant way?

August 9, 2006 at 2:19 pmjust can second alex’ post. its the easiest way to do it.
open media tool open; sort by project (crtl+e) and consolidate the project-related files to desired drive which you then connect to another system. that’s it for the media files. project data must be copied seperately. but this is just a little folder.rock on

August 13, 2006 at 2:51 pmIt depends on how much coin you wish to drop.
If you had a shared storage enviroment you could put your project folder on an external workspace and then point to it from any PC. This is much better than having to move the project folder and media.
If you don’t drop the coin then I would suggest a (non avid solution) network share or an external firewire drive. This would allow you to move easily but would require some consolidation if you wanted the media to remain on more than one PC at a time.
