I have some text over Video in AE, I have made it a bit opaque but is there anyway to give it more of a texture? so it doesn’t seem so slapped on?

Add a little blur and play with transfer modes. You can also create a texture using fractal noise in a precomp, and then layer that over the text and use the text as a track matte to confine the noise map. It really depends on the look that you are trying to acheive.
