I’m trying to figure out how to take basic text, explode it into particles, and then have the particles collapse back into new text. I don’t have particular, so I’ve been trying to use particle world, particle systems, and particle playground but I can’t quite wrap my head around it.

I tried following the “Text blowing away like sand” tutorial to get some insight but it keeps bogging my system down trying to render all of the particles.

Could anyone please offer some advice?

As always, thanks for the help!

One way to accomplish this would be to use the Shatter plugin that comes with AE, using your text layer as a custom shatter map, and make the pieces very small. Output your first text shatter the way you want it to look (gravity settings, camera, etc.), then use the same effect (saved as an .ffx)on your second text. Render that off, import the file, play it backwards, then dissolve the first text effect into the second one. That should do the trick.

    Thanks for the advice, Joe.

I ended up doing this exact thing. I remapped the speed a bit so that the dissolve wasn’t as noticeable.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the input!
