Text of Logo Reveal using Write On (No text layer)
I am trying to animate a logo. The problem is when i put a solid over the text in the logo to try and reveal it with a write on effect, the entire image is exposed. I want to carve away the black solid layer to give the impression of it being drawn on. How do I do this?
I do apologize for this elementary question, I’m new to the software and I can’t find anything online that doesn’t involve a text layer.

I’ve made my mask using pen tool on a solid where I want the text to be revealed. I’m still having the same problem, when I select reveal original image, instead of painting a reveal, it’s set up to paint a conceal if you get me.
I don’t fully understand what a track matte is.
I’m sorry for being so helplessly new to AE
