I’m trying to cut and paste French captions into Vegas, but I lose formatting on the the French symbol (MC) for Trade Mark. I can paste regular Trade Mark symbols (TM) and keep the formatting (size and placement), but the French just changes to full size letters. Any ideas on this? Thanks.

    Eh, nasty . .

As you have discovered the TM or ™ is an actual MS symbol – it isn’t a set of letters at all. Now, whatever you are bringing into Vegas would appear NOT to be an extended Character Symbol, from the MS character set/s, but it IS in itself, possibly, a SUPERSCRIPT set of 2 letters – “M” and “C”. You have proved this by noticing that the formatting is not retained. This to me proves that the MC is in itself, NOT a character symbol. OK . . . My advice would be to use ProTypeTitler, you can do a SUPERSCRIPT look-a-like bit within the same text Event box by manually adding a smaller upper box, or, horrible this, use the standard SONY TEXT using 2 tracks JUST for the MC to appear in the correct size and position – nasty! Mind you, once you have this setup it is only a need for this to be copy/pasted to the region you’re doing? Does that make sense?

So, to recap, TM is not a set of 2 characters but a symbol, and hence its perceived ability to “retain” its appearance of superscript formatting – which it isn’t! – and to either use 2 Tracks or PTT.

Sorry, but this is the best I can come up with? And I have done some quick INTERNET research on this and I truly cannot find a “MC” in the format/symbol you want.

    Grazie

Thank you for your reply. I think you are right. Luckily, the accent marks came in as they should or I would have been in big trouble. The French symbols for trademark and registered di not. Lucky, the Spanish was the same as English. I have not been able to get the hang of the Pro Type Titler. I come from using Inscriber CG and that Sony titler is not friendly to me. I wound up doing the second workaround you mentioned. Yes, it was very tedious! Thanks for the info!
